How to calculate your expression number from your name

Choose the name you will use

Your expression number uses letters; your life path uses your birth date. Write down the name you have chosen before starting. To follow the traditional convention, you can use your full birth name, including family names.

YourLuckyAstro uses the optional name you provide. Comparing two names means comparing different inputs, not proving that one is better. A short fictional example lets us learn the process without using personal details.

Turn each letter into a number

Use this repeating 1–9 mapping. Write the value under every letter, including repeated letters. Spaces and hyphens add nothing.

To reproduce the report, use A–Z and remove compatible accents: JOSÉ becomes JOSE. Other alphabets and letters that do not convert to A–Z are omitted; do not guess their equivalent. Check the normalised name before interpreting the result.

Worked example: ANA SOL

Follow the operations in order. For your own name, check that you have one value for every supported letter.

   Write the values

   ANA SOL → 1 · 5 · 1 · 1 · 6 · 3

   A appears twice and is counted twice. N and S are different letters, even when values repeat.

2. 2

   Add every letter

   1 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 6 + 3 = 17

   The space between the words is not counted.

3. 3

   Reduce the total

   17 → 1 + 7 = 8

   This name gives expression number 8. We keep 11, 22 and 33 if they appear while reducing the total.

Check the calculation and make it useful

Try ALMA: A is 1, L is 3, M is 4 and A is 1. The total is 9. If you get something else, check the letters before looking for another meaning.

The number is a symbolic prompt, not a measure of talent or an obligation. Choose a way of expressing yourself to practise this week: ask clearly for help, share an idea or finish something you have started.
